Which citation style should I use?

Citing correctly 6

The citation style determines, among other things, how references and the bibliography should be formatted and whether the citations appear in the text or in the footnotes. It is important that you stick to one citation style and cite uniformly and correctly. There are thousands of different citation styles, therefore it is best to ask your faculty or your supervisor which you should be using.

Tip: The literature management programme Citavi can help you!

You can find literature on working academically, citing and writing in Reading Room 1 in the Learning Centre, in the subject group A 3-55.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll present a video series from the Saxon State and University Library (SLUB) on the topic of citation. If you want to skip ahead, you can find the playlist containing all of the sections here.

The handout referred to in the videos can be found in German here.
